Duncan Cole

I am a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Medical Education in the School of Medicine at Cardiff University. My clinical interests are in Inherited Metabolic Disease and Clinical Biochemistry. I came to systems thinking and complexity theory through two routes: my first encounter was when attending the Harvard-Macy Institute's Leading Innovations in Healthcare and Education and the second was discussing systems thinking in life sciences with my father-in-law. These experiences helped me to see how powerful this way of approaching the world is. I have subsequently delved into the literature and begun to apply these new ways of thinking to problems in my fields of interest and to leading teams within my organisation. This website is my attempt to organise what I have found, and to explain some of the ideas to an audience that could have been me a year ago. I have found it exciting and intellectually stimulating - I hope you do too!
